The Alberta Amateur Country Dance Contest is being held here in Calgary at the Ranchman's March 10, 17, 24th with the finals being held on March 31st.

We are giving away Cash, Prizes and Apparel including nights stay at the Hyatt Regency Calgary and Calgary Dance Stampede passes.

This is a new "Grass Roots" contest for those of you who have never competed before. We want this to be a way that any and all people no matter who they are and from all walks of life can experience country dance. It truly is a 'dance country for fun' organization.

We are offering 2 divisions in Two Step and 2 divisions in Line Dance, Starter and Beginner. The 2 Line Dances are Rhonda Towns "Slow Rain" for beginner and Jake Owen's "Eight Second Ride" for Beginner. All the step sheets and instructional videos can be found on the web site. Cost is only $10.00 per couple and $5.00

Registration forms and the rules for the contest can be downloaded pre-event. Payment can be made on-site only on the night of the contest.

During the contest, up to five judges will rank the dance couples based on their skills, presentation, and showmanship. Scores from all the judges are combined to obtain the final standings. Adjudication is a subjective process (to say the least) and that is why several judges are used to ensure fairness. Depending on the number of entries, competitors will be required to compete in a Preliminary Round until a maximum of five couples are recalled for the final round by the judges. During the final round, the top three placements are determined and those three finalists are then invited to compete at the 2010 Calgary Dance Stampede against the top three finalists from other cities for the 2010 Southern Alberta Title.
